Exploring the Representation of Diverse Detectives in Popular Media

It’s been a great month of reading diverse mysteries! I’m so excited to have discovered so many new titles to add to my TBR. I’ve also finally pulled the name of the giveaway winner from my hat – congratulations to @Aanandika Sood! Scroll down for the reveal.

Monica absolutely rocked the challenge, reading 7 awesome books, while Vishy read 3 Kolaiyudhir Kalam by Sujata and the Byomkesh Bakshi mysteries in Picture Imperfect by Saradindu Bandyopadhyay. Aanandika read the lovely Blanche On the Lam, and Natasha also read Blanche On the Lam as well as Keep Still by Eleanor Taylor Bland, part of the excellent Marti MacAlister series. Nova Vita enjoyed the Raina Sun mystery Raining Men and Corpses by Anne R. Tan, and Deepika read The Plot Is Murder, getting two mysteries for the price of one!

I’ve also read a mystery Anne R. Tan, Just Shoot Me Dead, and another mystery Death by Dumpling by Vivien Chien. And inspired by Monica, I read Black and Blue in Harlem by Delia C. Pitts, which I reviewed on my blog. I’m almost finished with Sectrets, Lies, & Crawfish Pies, the first Romaine Wilder mystery, and I’m sure I’ll be reading more in this series.

And now for the GIVEAWAY winner: The hat says it’s @Aanandika Sood! They get to choose a #DiverseDetective book for €15/$15. Please contact me on the blog or on social media till Monday to hash out the details and get you your book. If I don’t hear anything back till Monday, I’ll draw another winner.

Thanks so much all for participating! I hope you enjoyed yourselves and found lots of diverse mysteries to read. I’ve also started putting together a list here on the blog, it’s a WIP, but feel free to pop over for more recs!

D.E. Stevenson’s Novel “The Empty World”

Welcome to my monthly post on all things historical fiction! The second type of book is sometimes referred to as a ‘biographical novel’ and ranges … Continue reading Historical Musings #78: Real people or fictional?…
