I recently read Akif Kichloo’s latest book of poetry, Falling Through Love, and I’m absolutely in awe. This collection of poems is a beautiful exploration of love, longing, loss, and identity. Kichloo dives deep into his own personal experiences and emotions, but also manages to make them universally resonant. He uses a variety of poetic forms—free verse, rhyme, prose, and visual poetry—to take the reader on a poignant journey.
Falling Through Love is a powerful collection that will make you feel emotions beyond your own understanding. It is both personal and inclusive, inviting readers to share in the joy and grief of the poems. I was particularly moved by the poem “The Absence of Everything,” which speaks to the pain of a stillborn child and its effect on the parents’ relationship. This book is a must-read for anyone who appreciates honest and evocative poetry. Kichloo has definitely earned a spot on my list of favorite poets!
